College scholarship deadline approaching

By |

Jan. 14 is the deadline for students to apply for the Gates Millenium Scholars program.

Every year, 1,000 talented minority students are chosen to receive a good-through-graduation scholarship to use at any college or university of their choice.

The program provides student scholars with personal and professional development through leadership programs along with academic support throughout their college career.

Administered by the United Negro College Fund, the program was initially funded by a $1 billion grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Since 1999, it has funded the education of more than 16,000 students, awarding them more than $614 million dollars to pay for tuition, fees, books and housing.
