New speed camera near Columbus Park starts issuing tickets this week

By |

Drivers going by Columbus Park will want to be even more careful starting Friday. That’s when the city begins issuing tickets with a new automated speed camera.

Since it was installed last month at 5816 W. Jackson Blvd., speeders caught by the camera have been getting warnings.

But now drivers will be issued $35 tickets for going 6 to 10 mph over the posted limit, while those caught going more than 11 mph will be fined $100, according to a press release issued this week by the city.

Enforcement hours for cameras near parks is from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.. seven days a week.

The camera is one of 50 that’s being installed across the city this year, and they’ve caused some controversy, as evidenced by these comments posted at The Expired Meter.
