Holiday party tonight at Columbus Park

By |

The Austin Weekly News and its sister publication the Wednesday Journal are throwing a holiday party today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Columbus Park Refectory, 5701 W. Jackson Blvd.

With our community journalism roots firmly planted on each side of Austin Boulevard, the Journal and the Weekly are the rare entity that crosses what has become this artificial and oversized boundary. We have been working hard to make connections, friendships and partnerships, and our first holiday party is another part of our plan.

Through our community outreach, the Austin Weekly News has developed the West Side Business Network with the intention of renewing and re-energizing community relationships.

And in just a short period of time, we’ve been remarkably successful. The West Side Business Network has grown to include over 500 individuals since it began. Community members are consistently expressing their appreciation for these networking groups and the opportunities they provide.

Our aim tonight is to continue Austin Weekly News’ mission of bridging the gap between Chicago’s West Side and the suburbs by hosting this fun event to bring local professionals together and celebrate the progress we’ve made.

From politicians to local business owners, everyone is welcome; we hope you will join us in that celebration!

The free event will be a great chance for networking, and will include light refreshments, a kids activity corner for ages 3 and over, as well as live entertainment all evening long by these local artists:

*Praise Team
*Courtney Bradshaw
*Tamera Allen
*Comedian Ben Noble, winner of the city wide talent show “Showtime in Chicago”
*Hip Hop artist Brandon

*Portrayal of influential African-American women throughout history performed by Momma Kemba
*LocalMotions performing arts organization
*Latin singer Martine
*Lafaye
*The band Outward Focus with Cleveland Smith
