Austin resident defends community

Longtime Austin resident Joe English writes in a recent letter to the editor of The Chicago Tribune about the blessing of living on Austin.

The 43-year resident says his Austin is “so different” from the Austin portrayed in the Tribune.

“Austinites are rightly offended by the Tribune’s drumbeat that all things Austin are without grace . . . My neighbors and I are blessed to live in Austin, among caring folk, hardy and brave Americans of all colors and faiths, who do not give in, who do not run away, who care for and take care of each other.”
