Home energy assistance now available

Eligible residents needing emergency furnace reconnection or households with children younger than 5 can now enroll for assistance through the Community Economic and Development Association of Cook County.

The non-profit, which provides programs and services for residents in need, opened enrollment for the winter heating season program Oct. 1. Seniors and individuals with disabilities can apply for assistance right now, too, as enrollment began for them Sept. 4. General enrollment will start Nov. 1.

You can visit CEDA’s web site to see if you are eligible for assistance and learn about other benefits you could receive.

CEDA also offers a year-round program that helps residents weatherize homes to improve energy efficiency. Click here for more information.

Heating help is also available from ComEd through the company’s Residential Special Hardship Fund. Click here for eligibility requirements and information about how to receive assistance.
