Help Austin Town Hall win a makeover

By |

The historic building at 5610 W. Lake St. is among 10 community houses nationwide – and the only one in Illinois – competing for a $50,000 renovation makeover.

The Chicago Park District, which operates Austin Town Hall, is asking Chicagoans to vote from now through June 17, when the contest ends. You can vote once a day.

Five winners will be announced in late June.

As of this morning, Austin Town Hall had received 9,124 votes, putting it in last place. The top vote-getter – with 36,885 votes – is The Advisory Committee of Liberty City Youth in Miami. Other competitors have received between 14,869 and 28,537 votes.

The Drops of Good program is sponsored by Maxwell House Coffee, a Kraft Food Co., and Rebuilding Together, a nonprofit that works to preserve affordable home ownership and revitalize neighborhoods by providing extensive rehabilitation.

With more than 43 million Americans living below the poverty line, community centers have increasingly become the heart and soul of our neighborhoods.
