The historic building at 5610 W. Lake St. is among 10 community houses nationwide – and the only one in Illinois – competing for a $50,000 renovation makeover.
The Chicago Park District, which operates Austin Town Hall, is asking Chicagoans to vote from now through June 17, when the contest ends. You can vote once a day.
Five winners will be announced in late June.
As of this morning, Austin Town Hall had received 9,124 votes, putting it in last place. The top vote-getter – with 36,885 votes – is The Advisory Committee of Liberty City Youth in Miami. Other competitors have received between 14,869 and 28,537 votes.
The Drops of Good program is sponsored by Maxwell House Coffee, a Kraft Food Co., and Rebuilding Together, a nonprofit that works to preserve affordable home ownership and revitalize neighborhoods by providing extensive rehabilitation.
