West Side school performs first jazz band show

By |

Jazz band students from Austin’s May Community Academy performed their first show since forming their group last fall through the Chicago Jazz PhilharmonicJazz Alive program.

The program has four stages, beginning with music discovery and ending with the school’s own jazz band. Six Chicago schools participate, and four have reached the final jazz band level.

Listen to students from May Community Academy as they perform and talk about their experiences learning jazz.

  1. Thank you Devin and AustinTalks for this GREAT story and profile of CJP’s work at May Academy. We are so proud of this program and rarely find the community outlets to let Chicago know about it. Look forward to more stories like this!!
