Move Me Soul appears at the Chicago Theater

Last week, about 330 local teens from 10 schools performed at the Chicago Theater as part of the After School Matters Showcase.

There was African drumming by Douglass Academy High School, a hip hop dance set to the sounds from the “Inception” soundtrack by the South Shore Drill Team and a performance by the Chicago Opera Theater for Teens. And students from the Chicago West Community Music Center’s Business of Music closed the showcase with “Let the Sun Shine In” from “Hair.”

Students also had the opportunity to showcase their paintings and serve attendees specially prepared culinary treats.

For the second year in a row, students from the Austin high school campus performed their dance Pure Energy at the Chicago Theater as apprentices. Here’s a taste of what happened March 23.
