Local groups will serve Thanksgiving dinner

Austin residents in need of a place to go for Thanksgiving have at least four options tomorrow.

“A lot of people in Austin are low income or no income, or dealing with drug addiction,” said Joy Baines of the Free Accepted Modern Masons and the Order of Eastern Stars Inc, which has served a free Thanksgiving dinner for more than 30 years and will do so again on Thursday.

“This is a place where they can come,” said Baines. “Join my family for the holiday.”

Her “family” – members of the masonry – make the soup kitchen and free Thanksgiving dinners possible through donations. Baines says others also help make the free meal possible.

In addition to its free Thanksgiving dinner, the group hosts a free soup kitchen each week Tuesday through Thursday from 12 to 1 p.m. Residents are welcome to come, sign in and have at hot meal.

The Thanksgiving dinner will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the organization’s human needs center at 5323 W. Lake St.

“If they are hungry and in need and they come in, they’re going to be fed,” said Baines.

Here’s a list of other places in Austin offering a free Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday:
