Juniors at VOISE Academy have been on a fantasy team this school year. Teachers got the chance to pick students to be on a team, and teams compete every Friday on a subject picked from the practice ACT. The fantasy teams help prepare students to take the real ACT.

But have the fantasy teams had any effect on students’ grades? Team player Van says no:  “These teams are putting too much stress on me, and it’s not really helping my grades at all.”

Amber agrees: “My grades are going down because classes are being cut short.”

“Students are starting to not take their teams seriously,” says teacher Ms. Smith. And that could lead them to not taking their school work seriously.

“The teams annoy me,” says Tashina Ross, who says they make it hard for her to pay attention.

“It’s hard balancing team work and school work,” says Eddonisha Jones.

Students don’t have much time to practice for their team competitions. Starting a new semester most students have goal they are trying to reach, and the teams are getting in their way.

“My grades are the same, no change,” says Jasmine Adams.

“I just want the ACT to be over with already,” says Junior Whittney Wright.
