Chicago police charged a 13-year-old boy with felony aggravated battery against a police officer Wednesday after he hit an officer in the arm with a snowball while the officer was parked near Leland Elementary School.
The boy is believed to be a student at Leland, formerly May Elementary, which sits at the southeast corner of the intersection near where the snowball was thrown, according to a story by DNAinfo Chicago reporter Darryl Holliday.
Officials at the school acknowledged the incident occurred but declined to comment.
Some West Siders are upset the boy was charged with a felony, while one local resident told DNAinfo he thought the charges were justified.
