The Chicago Park District’s summer programs for campers ages six to 12 are now available for viewing, and parents are encouraged to register early.
More than 30,000 campers will go on field trips, explore nature, arts and culture, engage in sports and recreation, and enjoy pool time at most six-week camps that run June 25 to Aug. 3. Kids will also keep their reading skills sharp as a way to continue learning in preparation for back-to-school in the fall, according to a Chicago Park District press release.
In Austin, camps will be held at Amundsen, Austin Town Hall, Columbus, Clark (John), Galewood and La Follette parks.
Online registration will start at 9 a.m. April 9, and at most parks, in-person registration begins Saturday, April 14. Whether you choose to register online or in-person, everyone is required to create an account beforehand on the Park District’s new account registration system.
Fees for each camp vary, but most cost between $1 and $3 per hour. A credit card payment is required for online registration, but cash – exact change – checks and money orders (not accepted two weeks prior to program start date) and credit cards are accepted in-person.
Chicago Park District also offers a variety of free programs, including aquatics, baseball, boxing and football.
