The Chicago Sun-Times reported Thursday that three people were being questioned about Lewis’ murder, which occurred at an Austin convenience store where the officer had just begun working a new off-duty security job.
A $30,000-plus reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the robbers responsible for Lewis’ death.
During Thursday morning’s funeral, held at United Missionary Baptist Church, 4242 W. Roosevelt Road, Lewis’ fiancee held hands with his mother, Maxine Hooks, as the two stood at the lectern near the open casket, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Walker recalled how she objected last week when Lewis prepared to leave for his security job on his day off from his tactical unit assignment.
He told her he’d be gone for only a three-hour shift, declaring, “Sweetheart, I’ll be back.”
But “he didn’t come back,” the Chicago Tribune reported.
“I will not say goodbye to you today,” she said, addressing Lewis. “I’m just going to say, ‘See you later,’ because that’s what he said when he left out of the door.”
