An Oak Brook businessman has donated $5,000 to the reward fund established after 15-year-old Demetrius Griffin Jr. was found dead in Austin last month.
The fund was started with a $2,500 donation from The Leaders Network to be given to those who provide information leading to the killer of the Steinmetz High school freshman, whose body was found burned beyond recognition in a West Side alley.
On Tuesday, Oct. 11, Griffin’s mother Polly Sykes, other family members and faith leaders of the Leaders Network will gather with the businessman who wishes to remain anonymous.
“My heart goes out to the mom, and I want to help get that killer off the streets,” he said.
Rev. Ira Acree, pastor of Greater St. John Bible Church, said, “This travesty has touched the hearts of people in and outside of our community. We are grateful that so many are committed to bringing the perpetrator of this crime to justice.”
Rev. Marshall Hatch of New Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church and the Griffin family pastor said, “The family of Demetrius Griffin deeply appreciates the help in finding his killer. Justice we’ll be the only way they will find some peace.”
