Hear from some of Austin’s ‘everyday activists’

By |

A panel discussion featuring some of the 19 Austin and Oak Park residents featured in a photo exhibit will be held Sunday, March 13.

A reception will follow the 2 p.m. panel, both of which will take place at the Austin branch library, 5615 W. Race Ave. Austin activists who are part of the “Everyday Activists” exhibit include Liz Abunaw of Forty Acres Fresh Market and Pastor Ira Acree of Greater St. John Bible Church.

The panel and reception was originally scheduled for early January but had to be postponed after multiple library staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

The exhibit will be displayed at the Austin branch until March 31; it was also featured last spring at the Oak Park Art League.

The aim of the portraits and accompanying interviews is to show the positive change community members are making. Other subjects include Leroy Duncan, a community activist who’s lived in Austin for decades; artist Vanessa Stokes; and Jeremy Mercado of BUILD.
