In the wake of increased violence in Austin, state Rep. La Shawn K. Ford will host a “stop the crime” listening session with community members Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. until noon at the Kehrein Center for the Arts, 5628 W. Washington Blvd.
“The crime in Chicago, and especially on the west side, is deadly,” said Ford, who serves as chairman of the Illinois House Public Safety and Violence Prevention Task Force. “It is my hope that the people have a voice and their demands are heard. Taxpayers pay for healthy and safe neighborhoods, not dangerous life-threatening communities.”
Ford will be joined by the Westside Health Authority and community members for an open public discussion.
As chair of the Public Safety and Violence Prevention Task Force, Ford has sought input from neighborhood stakeholders, law enforcement, advocates and lawmakers as part of his efforts to develop comprehensive, robust legislative solutions that tackle violence and address the safety concerns of families.
Those unable to attend who still wish to provide feedback are encouraged to share their thoughts by emailing the task force at PublicSafetyAndViolencePreventionTaskForce@hds.ilga.gov.
For those able to attend Saturday’s session, parking is available at the corner of North Central Avenue and Washington Boulevard.
