Thirteen actors will take to the stage 7 p.m.. Friday and Saturday to perform “Zooman and the Sign.”
The play, by Charles Fuller, is about a bereaved father who posts a sign accusing his community of cowardice when witnesses won’t identify the killer of his of his 12-year-old daughter.
Audience members should be at least 13, said Dionne Hawkins, the play’s director and a longtime drama instructor for the Chicago Park District.
The performances – which started March 19 – are the culmination of a play production class the actors took at Austin Town Hall. The next class, open to anyone 18 or older, starts March 30 and runs through June 1; it will meet Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 8:45 p.m. and costs $11.
This weekend’s performance lasts 90 minutes and will be held in the Austin Town Hall auditorium.
The actors are: Jessica Cain, Laron Cain, Cordell Clark, Vincent L. Deamon, Romeo Gant, Cleveland Gidney, Deshawn Green, Joy Jenkins, Chad Roby, Takeisha Shanklin, Demetrous White Jr., Cornelius Williams and Neicy Williams.
