An interfaith coalition of ministers from across Chicago will gather this morning to launch its weekend-long “Sensible Gun Legislation” petition drive.

The 10 a.m. Sept. 7 meeting at St. James Cathedral, 671 N. Wabash Ave., is part of a movement by the Chicago Clergy Coalition, a group of more than 100 faith leaders citywide, working to combat violence.

The 100,000-signature petition drive will run this weekend in numerous churches, synagogues and mosques across the city to support reinstatement of an assault weapons ban and passage of House Bill 5831, which requires all hand guns are filed in a state registry.
