Carothers released from federal prison

Former 29th Ward Ald. Ike Carothers, the 31st Chicago City Council member in the past 40 years to be sent to prison, is now staying in a halfway house, the Sun-Times reported earlier this week.

In June 2010, Carothers was sentenced to 28 months in prison after he admitted to accepting a bribe for $40,000 in enovations to his Austin home in exchange for granting a zoning change for a controversial land development project.
