West Siders rally for voting rights

Young men participating in the MAAFA Redemption Project, a faith-based residential institute in West Garfield Park, traveled to Washington, D.C., to participate in Saturday’s voting rights march and rally. West Side ministers also attended the event, which marked the 58th anniversary of the historic March on Washington.

There are early voting sites across the city and on the West Side; they’re open seven days a week. If you have registered yet to vote, you can do so at any of these sites. If you prefer to vote by mail, you can drop off your sealed and completed ballot at a secure lock box any any Chicago early voting site. Election Day is Nov. 3.

All four candidates – incumbent Danny Davis and challengers Anthony Clark, Kina Collins and Kristine Schanbacher – have been invited to Thursday night’s forum, which is being sponsored by the South Austin Neighborhood Association. The candidates forum starts at 6 p.m. Feb. 20 and will be held at Friendship Baptist Church, at Jackson and Laramie.
