Agencies in the Austin neighborhood will be available to help residents with employment, health screenings, education counseling, ex-offender services, youth programs, obtaining a GED and other public services on May 4 from 1:30 to 6 p.m. at San Miguel School, 819 N. Leamington Ave.

Dedication ceremony for AIDS mural

A dedication ceremony for a new mural in Austin will take place Saturday, May 22 at the mural site, at the northeast corner of Chicago and Mayfield avenues. The AIDS “Austin Is Doing Something” mural is part of an awareness campaign of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. Ford to host town hall meeting on fighting violence

State Rep. La Shawn K. Ford (D-Chicago) will hold a Town Hall meeting at Ronald McNair Elementary School, 4820 W. Walton St., on Monday, May 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. The lawmaker wants to get input from residents on how to combat the escalating violence in Chicago.
